Becky Jones, aka The Thready Flock is a textile artist with a life-long love of birds. Growing up in the North-West Highlands, the outdoors and wildlife of the area were a big part of her childhood.

Fascinated by the texture of feathers and the wide range of colours found in plumage each piece of work begins life as a fabric collage. Becky focuses on the tonal areas of each bird using the fabric patterns to mimic the direction of the feathers. She then uses her sewing machine to ‘paint’ using a free-machine embroidery technique over the fabric collage. The machine stitching secures the fabric collage and brings out the details of the birds; the eyes, the shape, colour and texture of the feathers. The embroidery draws out the personality of the bird.
