Muriel Prince

Walking is at the heart of Muriel’s practice and serves as a way to deepen her connection with nature. She draws when walking, usually on paper scrolls, and these walking drawings inform works developed later in her studio. Muriel’s work is not about capturing the physicality of the landscape, she looks beyond reality, capturing the essence of place in her paintings, textile and collage works. Individual elements within scrolls, and wall hangings, provide a wide range of abstract images which represent an alternative means of viewing, and capturing, the natural world.

Sketchbooks are a huge part of her practice, she spends a lot of time in them exploring imagery and experimenting with materials.

As a mixed media artist, Muriel employs a variety of techniques to develop her ideas, including mark making, drawing, painting, print, hand embroidery and free motion machine stitch on paper and fabric to create one-of-a-kind artworks and small series.
