Alex came to embroidery by way of upholstery and furniture restoration, which led to making stitched seat covers for old chairs. She then discovered a passionate interest in designing. A City & Guilds course introduced her to the huge possibilities of techniques like dyeing, manipulating, burning, etc., as well as stitching and using a mixture of media. Studying for the H.E Diploma at Windsor she discovered art and began to relate art to stitching.

She enjoys stitching for its own sake and making naturalistic figurative pieces. However, she also enjoys the process of tackling an abstract idea and working through it to develop a visual approach, followed by sampling to choose suitable, effective materials.

She is a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and an exhibiting artist with Prism and the EDGE textile artist group.
